Drake’s “1500” Pale Ale: I’m not super big into pale ales, but I’m really enjoying this Drake’s binge I’ve been on lately and I wanted something with a lower alcohol content because I work tonight. The aroma on 1500 is incredible. It smells just like a hoppy, West-Coast IPA, which likely can be attributed to the dry hopping. Dominating citrus with maybe a little grapefruit. Decent caramel malt profile. The flavor is a lot more in line with a pale ale than the nose. Fairly mild with a slight bitterness. Front-loaded hops and a malty backbone. Floral hops are much more pronounced on the palate, but you still get those citrus and grapefruit with a hint of herbal grassiness. Pale malt with a subtle sweetness. Crisp and refreshing. Again, pale ales are not my go to. The aroma was more enjoyable for me than the flavor. I prefer heavier, darker malts to pale malt. Having said that, this is one of the better American Pale Ales I’ve had.
Happy Independence Day.
