Drake’s “Drakonic” Imperial Stout: Ya know, I’ve seen this a handful of times, but haven’t tried it yet. The weather is really nice right now. We’re getting a break from our 110 degree weather with a delta breeze. I hate drinking stouts when it’s hot. The nose on this is really pleasant. Lots of cocoa nibs with a hint of coffee and roastiness. The roasted malts really shine in the mouthfeel and follow through all the way to the back of the palate and aftertaste. Fairly bitter from the hops and coffee, but it’s balanced well with the sweet chocolate. There might also be a hint of anise in there. The mouthfeel is a creamy and actually a bit gritty, which I like on this particular stout. I’m always on the fence on how I like the mouthfeel on my stouts. It’s all dependent on flavor profile and alcohol content. But I enjoyed this. This was nice. I almost wouldn’t mind if the fusel notes were a little more prominent. They’re well hidden, but something about boozy chocolate stouts really gets me going.
