Mikkeller “Beer Hop Breakfast” Oatmeal Stout: I’ve been sitting on this oatmeal stout brewed with coffee for a while now. Let me also make it known that a while for me is like two weeks. This beer is gnarly. Huge coffee and roasted malt characteristics in the aroma. Piney hops, and perhaps some citrus hops, dominate the nose as well. A bit smokey in the flavor profile. Bitter hops notes at the front of the palate with linger hops towards the back and finally finishing with roasted coffee and malt in the back of the palate. The roastiness of this beer really lingers, which is amazing. Medium wet to dry finish. The hops and roasty qualities of this beer almost remind me of a creamy black IPA, which I’m all about. The verdict is out whether I prefer this to Beer Geek Breakfast. It’s been a while since I’ve had it. I also hadn’t developed my palate for stouts and porters at that point, so I might need to revisit it.
